Healthy Like Mom

I have to toss a few little anecdotes on here from our kiddos from the past few weeks (before I forget!) Lily Brian took the kids to McDonalds and got them happy meals, ordering both of them chocolate milk (their usual favorite). After he exited the drive-thru, Lily said, "I wanted white milk", to which Brian responded, "what, you always like chocolate milk!) Lily's response was: I want to eat healthy like mom. I couldn't have been more proud when I heard this, and it also made me thankful for my lifestyle change to eating healthier, because it made me truly realize that the kids are WATCHING. Monday night on the way to the gym for my Zumba class, Lily was telling me about a boy in 1st grade named Corey. She's talked about him a bit recently, as the boy who is "good at math, science and sports". On the way to the gym, however, she also mentioned that he's HANDSOME and that she's going to marry him!!! "Stop!", I told her jokingly, because she sounded like a teenager. Oh Lord, she's in kindergarten. I said, "Lily, you're only 6!" She said, "I know, I'm not going to marry him now, just when I grow up!" No. I want her to stay 6 and innocent FOREVER. This morning, we heard something fall off of one of the shelves in our hall closet (where we keep all of our toiletries, etc.). It turned out to be the box that had nail polish, nail polish remover, nail files and whatnot in it. It had been precariously perched upon a few other boxes and must have shifted ever-so-slightly. Anyway, it came crashing down bit by bit and ONE of the nail polish bottles broke open and spilled on the tan colored carpet. Which polish? None other than the black "crackle" nail polish, the kind that gets added over the first coat of color to give it a "crackled" look. I said, "oh man, why did it have to be the black one???" to which Lily responded, "good thing it was the black one, or you might not have seen that it spilled. If it was too light you might not have noticed". That's my girl, looking for the silver lining, ever the optimist, just like, well, her mama. Max When Max sings the ABCs these days, LMNOP sound just like M-O-M-0-P Lily and I have been working with Max to help him say words that start with the letter "s". He's long called snacks "nacks", or Spiderman has been "piderman", and we've just gotten used to his Max-speak. We now try to have him hiss like a snake to get the sound going, then add the rest of the word, so he'll say, "sssssssnack", and we're thrilled for him! Max is still working on potty training, but he certainly has a routine: his shorts/pants must be fully removed, he wants his stepstool in front of the toilet like a footrest, puts his potty seat on by himself, wants to read either Everyone Poops or an assortment of books, and must flush by himself. When he poops, he'll look into the toilet and often say, "I made a caterpillar!" He's been acting like a baby owl lately, just when he wants to snuggle. He'll do some cute little "whoo, whoos", then tell me that I'm the mama owl, Brian's the daddy owl, and Lily's (you guessed it), the big sister owl. We all make our owl sounds accordingly and it's fun. Today he and I were snuggling in the living room, being owls, when The Who's song came on with the lyrics, "who are you? who who, who, who?" Max's eyes lit up and he said, "they just said, who, whoo!" That's all I can recall from the last week or so, but there will surely be more moments (and hopefully some pictures) coming up!!!
